Rubislaw Den

This extension and renovation was subject to close scrutiny by the planning authority, as the house is situated in a conservation area and has a prominent location in Aberdeen’s most prestigious street.

It was a major reconstruction project, involving the removal of a crucial part of the centre of the house, including the existing defective glass roof.

In its place, we built a two-storey, black zinc glazed atrium with oak beams.

The modern glass expanse lets in abundant light; the space is bright and cheery in the morning and glows as the sun sets.

A custom made steel spine staircase with oak treads makes a beautiful feature inside the home. While outside, the Coldwells team constructed a new patio with granite paving slabs and glass balustrades.

The end result has greatly improved the visual aspect of the house, which was originally built in 1993.
